26th March - Charing
Ashford Valley Tickham

Next meeting

Going: Good
1st Race - 2.00pm. The OPEN MAIDEN Race - 3m - 12st
Art Libre Poor form under rules. Ran out when leading last time out.
Brogeen Boy Fell when going well at Ampton but blundered badly last time.
Dccovi Still yet to get round but his best effort was at this course.
Forgive Intrusion Twelve-year-old who hasn’t run for a long time.
I Am Sam Unraced but from a good yard.
Iskrabob Showed one piece of good form but jumping perhaps an issue.
Jump To The Beat Showed moderate form but it might be enough here.
Loves Blind Has ability but his completion rate is poor.
Minmore Present Placed in Ireland as a four-year-old, last ran in January.
Quick Oats Pulled up at Godstone last time but should be capable of better.
Robins Wager Not showed much form this season.
Scorpion Star Placed behind Daidaidai in November but hasn’t run for a while.
Sir Reecer Yet to complete for new yard.
Sobar Completed on first start but disappointed after, needs to show more.
West Lake Finished third in tiring ground at Parham and should be capable of progressing.

Not the highest quality maiden we’ve had this season but Minmore Present should be well capable of taking it if he runs. I Am Sam is an unknown quantity so could run well, while Iskrabob is rated the highest of those with any form, but West Lake isn’t far behind and should improve for his run.
1. Minmore Present       2. Iskrabob          3. West Lake

2nd Race - 2.35pm. The PPORA CLUB Race for Veteran & Novice Riders- 2m4f - 12st
Daidaidai Won impressively on both starts and the distance will suit if he’s recovered from Penshurst.
Definite Ridge Ran well in a visor at Parham before stopping to a walk, better ground should help.
Ferris Bueller Pulled up on both starts this season.
Gamato Has form at the course and distance should suit, but may need a run to sharpen up.
Miss Alice Jones Disappointed this season but better ground might help.
Mister Bricolage Won twice last season then was twice beaten favourite at Intermediate level.
Noble Legacy Restricted horse who missed 2014 and 2015, poor form this season.
Okafranca Pulled up behind Counting House at Godstone and will need to improve a bit for the run.
Orfeo Conti Hasn’t run yet this season and probably prefer a stamina test.
Pep Talk Still a maiden and pulled up at Penshurst.
Running In Heels Looked back to herself at Higham but needs fast ground.
See You Jack Ran well at Penshurst with a big penalty and should go better without it.
Silver Token Good form last season but has struggled for new connections this season.
Ukranian Star Pulled up behind Witch’s Hat at Penshurst.
Witch’s Hat Showed improved form winning at Penshurst, perhaps due to better ground.

An interesting race with not many of these regular winners. Daidaidai is looking like a nice horse and should be able to win this if he runs. Definite Ridge and Gamato both have decent course form and should do well on better ground, while See You Jack should do well without being laden down with weight. Witch’s Hat and Mister Bricolage can’t be discounted.
1. Daidaidai       2. See You Jack    3. Gamato

3rd Race - 3.10pm. The Subaru RESTRICTED Race - 3m - 12st
Did You Ever Ran well on seasonal debut at Penshurst and won his maiden at this course.
Forrest Blue Beat My Brother Pat last season but has been disappointing this season.
Jenna Pride Not disgraced to be beaten by Nimbus Lad at Parham and should run well.
Leafy Arbour Yet to get round in four races this season.
Letskeepit Simple The form from his Godstone restricted has been given a big boost and he won here.
My Brother Pat Pulled up twice this season but should run better on better ground.
Noble Legacy Missed 2014 and 2015, poor form this season.
Rise To It Finished just behind The Gunner Brady at Cocklebarrow who won here at the last meeting.

Of the local horses it looks between Jenna Pride and Letskeepit Simple, with the latter perhaps boasting the best recent form. Rise To It has been running in some competitive races and could find this easier, while Did You Ever showed improved form last time.
1. Letskeepit Simple      2. Jenna Pride       3. Rise To It

4th Race - 3.45pm. The MIXED OPEN Race - 3m - 11st7lb
Broughtons Bandit Didn’t run as well on his last run and perhaps needs an easier course and better ground.
Brunswick Gold Fell here when favourite last time but has plenty of ability.
Come On You Won nicely here last time over a shorter trip but this is a step up.
Crazy Eyes Placed twice this season and should improve further for it.
Cutlass Silver Has struggled in recent seasons and should be outclassed.
Iheardu Needs fast ground and has won here before.
Little Chip Beat Gauvain last season but doesn’t look straightforward.
Major Decision Pulled up in the heavy ground at Parham but even better ground won’t see him win.
Many Stars Won well at Godstone after a lot of time off and should come on further for that.
Never Complain Placed in some very competitive opens and should find this much easier.
Orfeo Conti Placed in good opens but this is his first run of the season.
Out Now Highly rated under rules and placed in a hunter chase last time out.
Ukrainian Star Pulled up at Penshurst and will find this tougher.
Upton Mead Decent win and place rate in chases under rules, but makes his first start since December 2014.
Wor Rom Placed well in two opens but unseated last time.
Yukon Delta Finished in front of Witch’s Hat last time but a long way behind Many Stars.

This race looks between Out Now and Never Complain, with the latter perhaps benefitting from a jockey who is familiar with the course. Alternatively, Out Now’s connections may run Many Stars, but the third horse will most likely be either Crazy Eyes, Wor Rom or Come On You.
1. Never Complain            2. Out Now/Many Stars           3. Crazy Eyes

5th Race - 4.20pm. The SEHC MEMBERS CONDITIONS Race - 3m - 12st
De Clare Man Placed on both starts this season and should win soon.
Dead Or Alive Hasn’t shown good form for a while and probably best discounted.
Definite Ridge Placed here before and a visor worked well last time at Parham.
Howryagettinon Missed last season and perhaps been waiting for better ground.
Kornati Kid Pulled up on both his starts this season.
Minerfortyniner Won impressively at Godstone and will take a lot of beating.
Okafranca Pulled up at Godstone last time and will need to improve for that.
Rob Conti Useful hunter chaser, 5th in a decent Open last time out.
The Gunner Brady Won his Restricted here but this looks tougher.
Time Is Tickin Ran slightly better last time but still not as good as he was last season.
Zardsky Finished 20l behind Rob Conti on only start this season.

A surprisingly small field mainly consisting of horses from the York and Grissell stables. David Maxwell’s duo of Minerfortyniner and Rob Conti look much the best out of thse, but De Clare Man is the best hope the South East have of beating them, while The Gunner Brady has course winning form.
1. Minerfortyniner/Rob Conti          2. De Clare Man         3. The Gunner Brady

6th Race - 4.55pm. The AVT and Coakham Bloodhounds HUNT Race - 3m - 12st
Come On You Won well here last time and this looks a good opportunity to follow up.
Dccovi Still a maiden and still yet to complete.
Did You Ever Ran well at Penshurst there are tougher rivals in this.
Duke Of Kentford Won this last year but pulled up on both starts this season.
Forgive Intrusion Twelve-year-old maiden who hasn’t run for a long time.
Forrest Blue Beat My Brother Pat last season but has been disappointing this season.
Iheardu Has course winning form and this looks a nice race for him.
Minmore Present Nice Irish form but may find the maiden easier.

Come On You looks the pick of these but Iheardu isn’t without a chance after his good run last time. Duke Of Kentford needs to show improvement to win this again. Nick Pearce had a maiden place in this last season so wouldn’t be a major surprise if Minmore Present did something similar.
1. Come On You       2. Iheardu          3. Duke Of Kentford

Easter Weekend: Preview
There should be competitive racing at Charing this Easter, with the Mixed Open the highlight of a six race card. David Maxwell’s horses Out Now and Many Stars bring a touch of class to the race, but they may find Charlotte Marshall’s Never Complain a worthy adversary. The Club Members race isn’t too shabby either, where either impressive Godstone winner Minerfortyniner or Rob Conti could do battle with Rose Grissell’s De Clare Man. The 2m4f Novice and Veteran Riders race could see a quick winning reappearance from Penshurst winner Daidaidai, who looks to be well suited to these new shorter races. The Restricted race could see a clash between Letskeepit Simple for Ian Cobb and Jenna Pride for Nick Pearce, while Nick should win the concluding Hunt members race with either Come On You or Iheardu.

Easter Weekend: Review
Easter Saturday is usually associated with firm ground and small fields, but recent rain fall meant plenty of runners made for competitive racing on good racing ground. South East runners drew level with raiding parties, winning three of the six races. Nick Pearce was responsible for two of them, book-ending the meeting with Scorpion Star in the opening maiden and Iheardu in the concluding hunt race, ridden by Sam Davies-Thomas and Shane Roche, respectively. Suzie Russell further improved her impressive record as a trainer, as Daidaidai gave her a fifth win from five runners over the past twelve months, all ridden by her husband, Wayne. The six-year-old has been benefitting from the new 2m4f races but should find the step up to 3m well within his capabilities. The Mixed Open saw Never Complain go off the short-priced favourite to give Charlotte Marshall her third win this season, but he tired rapidly while Richard Bandey's Little Chip strode clear to win by a distance under Sam Davies-Thomas. David Maxwell is no stranger to nabbing a few races from the area and he left with a winner from one ride as Rob Conti recorded his third career victory, his first since 2012. Oz Wedmore has ridden a winner at the last three meetings from one ride each time, this time his win coming courtesy of Rise To It, trained by Karen Hobbs, sister-in-law to National Hunt trainer Philip Hobbs.
